Hemorrhoids and erectile dysfunction
When someone talks about hemorrhoids, no one can imagine that they could be linked to Erectile Dysfunction (ED) but, several researches have been showing that men may be more likely to suffer from erectile dysfunction (ED) if they have previously been diagnosed with hemorrhoids, particularly if they are aged under 40 years.
Now we will analyze the facts that are related with these two situations.
Study shows direct link
Based on a study developed by Herng-Ching Lin from Taipei Medical University, Taiwan and colleagues, their analysis showed that 1572 (24.9%) of 6310 individuals who had been diagnosed with erectile dysfunction between January 2001 and December 2009 had also previously received a diagnosis of hemorrhoids. However, of 31,550 individuals who were matched for age and index year and who did not have ED, only 4491 (14.2%) had previously been diagnosed with hemorrhoids (1).
Logistic regression analysis showed that the men who had erectile dysfunction were 90% more likely than those who did not have it to have previously suffered from hemorrhoids.
Further analysis by age group revealed that the association was strongest among younger men.

Indeed, of the men with erectile dysfunction, those aged less than 30 years were 3.71 times more likely to have previously experienced hemorrhoids than their age-matched controls, while those aged 30-39 years and 40-49 years were 2.39 and 1.69 times more likely, respectively, compared with their age-matched controls (2).
Why are they linked?
Impotence is the inability to attain or maintain an erection of the penis that is firm enough for sexual intercourse.
To initiate and maintain an erection, the penis must fill with blood. One type of blood vessel opens wide to allow blood into the penis. Meanwhile, a second type of blood vessel squeezes down to keep the blood from leaving the penis. Nerve signals cause the proper changes in the blood vessels (3).
Hemorrhoids are swollen blood vessels in and around the anus and lower rectum and this cause the irregular blood circulation in the pelvic area causing the inability to maintain an erection and later the ED.
This is basically the link in this case.
